Fear will prolong the pandemic

Three main principles of human psychology which can explain the unprecedented fear against the pandemic are comprehendible.

Principle 1
Healthcare is a primary right of every citizen which if devoid from people panic. If you take away any non-essential commodity people become frustrated just as they did in the lockdown laid down 400 days ago. When alcohol, restaurants and travelling were made compulsory shut people showed disgust, anger and frustration. But if you take away essential commodity like healthcare in current scenario people go to fear and panic.

Principle 2
Oxygen even with all its availability is still invaluable. When we cannot use an invaluable and available commodity like oxygen which is 21% part of air but under infection our lungs find it difficult to maintain a 95% saturation in the body we are scared and panicky.

Principle 3
In spite of all advances we are archaic minds in evolutionary brain with limited capacity. We are programmed to start from point A and End at Point B. So if start point A is decided by the brain the subconscious mind will definitely find the point B which is a cognitively biased end. All the proposed analysis or details are simply for the satisfaction of your pre frontal cortex. When in a situation like a pandemic the point A that is beginning of the pandemic by the spread of the virus and neither the end is decided which is the end of this misery we all panic and remain scared.

The world which was divided by color, caste, religion and money today remains united by the virus in which there are three types of people

Type 1: people are those who are negative but have fear that they will become positive anytime.

Type 2:  people are those who are positive but managed in home isolation or home care.

Type 3:  are those people who are admitted in hospitals in isolation rooms, oxygen beds or ventilators. Did you notice that all of them are suffering from same problem? Not the virus but the fear. Did you know that the fear cannot be managed by either of injections, medicines, oxygen or ventilators but only my developing a strong mental health.

We need a better medical infrastructure to manage the current pandemic. But we strongly need a better understanding and acceptance of mental health to manage the current situation and shape our futures in a better way.
I plan to propose across a month various by which mental strength can be improved by simple steps of cognitive therapy. This enhances you to become your own therapist.

Step 1
Maintain a thought diary. This should have an account of all your thoughts it’s obvious that 80% of them would be negative as that is a routine function of brain. Highlight the positive thoughts to make yourself realize that you in spite of the pandemic and emergency situation can still process these small positive thoughts.

Step 2
You eat food only as per your appetite. Then why not understand that even information has a satiety center and gathering knowledge and information beyond capacity can cause mental health disturbances

Step 3
Be kind and forgiving. Try to understand yourself. All the conflicts with self are responsible for people getting panicky in isolation wards and homes.
4. The most important one stop saying BE POSITIVE. No one can be in the current scenario with all the negativity around. Being negative is more realistic as toxic positivity fake smile useless quotes, messages and forwards take a serious toll on mental health.
